A profile is the name we give to combination of a layout and the media content that goes with it.
With a standard d|sign system, most of the content will be text, images and video that you enter into the system, and the Profile editor is where you do this.
Using the profile editor you can make as many profiles as you want, edit and update your content and generally define what a viewer will see on screen. You can make profiles for days of the week, portions of the day, for specific events, just for general viewing or any combination of the
above. The Profile Editor also helps you maintain, review and preview all of your content from one easy to use interface.
The scheduler is where you tell the screens in your system which profile to show, and when. Using the scheduler you can simply and instantly change what is showing on all of the screens in your system, or send a different profile to each screen.
You can also schedule profiles to appear in the future, at desired intervals - such as every 30 minutes and weeks in advance, so you don't have to worry that your content is getting updated when you are on holiday.
A Display Client is the software that manages the output on the screen that your viewers will see. Every d|sign system has at least one display client license but you can have as many as you like.
Each client license allows you to display a set of unique information. If you want 10 screens showing 10 different profiles then you need 10 display client licenses, however if you only want the same information on your 10 screens, you only need 1 display client license, and you can do that
by distributing the display output or installing the license on 10 different computers.
RSS feeds from the internet or internal web servers can be used to provide fresh automatically updating content for your digital signage system.
RSS feeds are now commonly available from content providers such as news services, weather, traffic and government departments and these can provide excellent content for your system as it encourages people to view the screens more regularly, especially if your normal content does not change
drastically every day.
Live TV and Video is a popular way to add an engaging focus to your digital signage that can compliment the other content you show on screen. Live TV is always changing so it draws people to the display. Perfect for waiting rooms, reception areas and foyers.
There are 2 main ways to show live TV or video within d|sign. Firstly, if the computer that runs the d|sign diplay client software has compatible video input hardware, d|sign can display the TV from that. Secondly d|sign can display video streams from the network, such as those from from IPTV hardware systems, or from a media server such as Windows Media Encoder. Please ask us for advice about whether your feed is suitable with d|sign or how to add one to your network.
The Journal function of d|sign allows you to add content to the system that is date specific. Whilst you can schedule all the profiles, and therefore all the content that appears in d|sign, the Journal is a function that will append information to your existing content automatically accoring to the date.
This is great for systems where the main body of your content only changes on a week to week basis, but some comtent needs to change every day, frequently used for restaurant menus, in the education sector and conferencing where some messages need to change frequently to notify of room changes,
abscences and other day to day messages, and perfect for sales and call centre environments which may have different targets or statistics every day.
Scores provides an area of the screen that rotates trough a user defined list of teams, individuals or statistics and an associated score or value.
Using this additional feature means you can quick update and display key \ value pairs without constantly changing your main content, or adding it to every profile. Widely used in the education sector to show "house points" and year results, Call centres and sales offices to show previous
days figures, or even to show share prices, KPIs or security and alert levels
Export is a function used by companies that wish to have a digital signage screen in an area with no network or internet connectivity. Once an admin user has configured the content and schedule for a display client, the Export function allows the user to transfer all the information and content required by the client onto a USB Key or CD and post this to the client screen or physically visit the screen at which point the data is simply loaded on again.
This provides a solution for organisations where they may not otherwise have the ability to display their content if they want to maintain central control and popular uses are by small chain stores, outlets or restaurants, on vehicle signage and in remote unmanned locations
User Permissions provides a way for larger organisations with multiple screens to delegate screens or gorups of screens to indivuals or groupls all of whom have their own username and password to access the software.
All of this done with one or more people still having full control over all users and screens, and this is great for orgainsations that have screens in different business divisions that want to add their own content but still have content added and control maintained at a central location.
Each client that purchases d|sign professional will receive a set of layouts in a bespoke design that is made using your own logo, images and corporate identity.
We will work together with you to make sure the design is unique to yourselves according you your own personal requirements. The design will be of a much higher quality than it is possible to acheive with most systems that rely on a "design it yourself interface" interface. This makes the system much more accessible to members of your organisation without design skills and all you have to concentrate on is inputing the content for your system, safe in the knowledge it will always look good on screen.
All d|sign customers with a valid maintenance contract (usually included with purchase for the first year) will also have access to our library of unbranded layouts.
Some of these are a "blank canvas" to which you can add your own logos and colours to give you different combinations and different proportions of content, others may contain a seasonal, themed or abstract design. You can use these with your own logos and content to greatly expand the variety of on-screen content you offer your viewers.
d|sign allows you to use a massive amount of different media types and content.
Support for over 25 different types of image file, any videos that will play in Windows Media Player, flash animations, Streaming and Live TV and radio, different types of text in different formats, internet and RSS feeds, Microsoft PowerPoint files, hooks into databases, Microsoft Excel files and web pages.
Together with content admin programs such meeting and scores, the possibilities are almost endless.
